Self Publisher Magazine interviews Spandex creator Martin Eden

The latest free issue of Self Publisher! Magazine is out now – a US based title devoted to the creation of independent comics but one that regularly features British creators talking about their craft . 

"Issue 63 has a lot riding on it," says editor Ian Shires. It's the first issue that we are making available to read on-screen through issuu, it is the issue that we are printing and taking to the SPACE show in Columbus in a couple weeks, and it will be the first issue to go onto Kindle and iPad distribution through Cloud 9."

This issue's British creator is Martin Eden, creator of the acclaimed O-Men and Spandex, looking back on 10 years of writing his characters and forward to Spandex Book Two, tentatively scheduled for release next year.

Also in the 48-page issue are interviews with Chad Lambert, creator of Possum at Large (along with a Sneak Peek at the comic), Dan Dillard, Drew Close, Mark Lesie Lefebvre, Canny Cooper, Michael C. Williams, and Richelle E. Goodrich.

The title is still looking for more writers to bring their perspectives to the magazine. "We have room for more interviewers, a need for reviewers, and a place for people who want to express how-to ideas," says Ian. "We are continuing to expand into literary, music, and movie indy areas as topics to cover. 

"SP! Is 'by the people, for the people', so I thank you each of you I send this message to, for taking the time to read it. I hope it resonates. I have been working on incarnations of SP! Since 1989 – and I don’t think we’ve ever been as close to reaching that 'critical mass' as we are right now. I pledge to continue to put everything I’ve got into making it work, until it does."

Self Publisher Magazine spotlights artist Adam Grose

While the latest issue of Self Publisher Magazine - a free e-publication devoted to indie comics - is dominated this time out by US creators, it does include an extensive interview with British illustrator, writer and comic artist Adam Grose, creator of the amazing Cosmogenesis with Tony Suleri, talking to Darren Worrow about his career, his move away from Cornwall and his hopes for his career.

Adam, a Fine Artist by profession, has been working on his latest project, a supernatural novella, for several years.

"I began plotting a supernatural story that was originally going to become a graphic novel in 2009," he reveals. "I was about to submit it to Insomnia, when they folded. I had illustrated the first 28 pages, but I thought it might be interesting to see if I could write a novella instead.

"I decided to follow this instinct and have spent the last three years, on and off, developing the plot further.

"It's a supernatural tale that follows the lives of a couple - an architect and a designer - who uncover a hidden secret.

"I don’t want to say too much at the moment, but it is a composite piece involving supernatural elements and it acts as a metaphor for our current times. It also embodies elements from certainconspiracies I’ve seen on the internet. I find these fascinating and they lend themselves to fiction very well."

Self Publisher Magazine is a great title devoted to smaller publishers, offering some tasty previews of upcoming projects, interviews and practical guidance on self publishing, wherever you are based. The team are improving the look of the title each issue and are currently looking at launching a print edition via a Kickstarter campaign.

Hunt Emerson, Paul Rainey in latest Self Publisher Magazine

Self Publisher! Magazine #61 might be a US-based digital title but with the huge number of British creators doing their own thing it's no wonder quite a few feature in the free downloadable magazine.

British talents interviewed this issue are Hunt Emerson, Paul Rainey and Tim Perkins, rubbing shoulders with a cover feature on Marvin Wynn's The Edge and an interview with Sneak Peek of Call Me Perilous #1

Regular articles include the Small Press Hall of Fame and more, a "Last Word" from comic creator Jay Savage, all in a full colour, 48-page magazine.

Jim Stewart, Mychailo Kazybrid feature in new, free Self Publisher Magazine

Self Publisher! Magazine #60 is available now free as a PDF download and introduces "a whole new look" to the magazine, offering lots of articles and features any indy creator or fan of such would enjoy, its editorial team at Dimestore Productions enthuse.

While this is a US magazine, based in Madison, it's of interest here for its interviews with British comics creators Jim "Ganjaman" Stewart and Wallace & Gromit artist Mychailo Kazybrid, talking about their careers in comic and self publishing.

There's also an ace strip by fab US artist Michael Neno, a guide to adding pictures to a SmashWords project, a look at Print on Demand, indie comic reviews and lots more.

Self Publisher! Magazine is the work of the Self Publisher Association, currently a "not for profit" group, their main goal in the coming months to officially become a Non-Profit organization, so thatthey  may better serve the world with their efforts to bring forth better tools for all creators to use to make it more likely that they can survive in today's changing markets.

"We are seeking to forge the foundation of a permanent Self Publisher Hall of Fame," they say, "and do everything we can to bring recognition to the do-it-yourself level of publishing. We hope you will take the time to learn about us, and then join in our efforts."

The editorial team on the magazine are doing everything they can to increase readership, so they can do more good for the self publishing comic creator community.
