Modesty Blaise Comic Challenge: The Winner

Davey Candlish, publisher of ace indie anthology Paragon, is the winner of our latest Comic Challenge to draw Modesty Blaise.

Here's his winning entry, which earns him a copy of Titan Books newest Modesty Blaise collection, Girl in the Iron Mask.

Davey claims he spends his time "watching cheesy 80s sci-fi and horror, even cheesier 70s ITC shows and occasionally drawing comics (but more often reading them)."

Choosing the winner was no easy task: we had some great art for this Challenge including entries from Keith Page, Dave Windett, Kev Harper, Paul Moore and many others.

Modesty Blaise Comic Challenge drawing to a close, deadline extended

Today is intended to be the last day for our Modesty Blaise Comic Challenge - but we've decided to extend it until Monday 25th March, 12 noon GMT, just in case there any more entries artists had almost completed between paid work, since we had several entries "close to the wire".

We have entries from a range of talented creators with their own take on Modesty, including Davey Candlish, Keith Page, Dave Windett, John Britton, Peter Hayes, Luke Scoffield and more.

If you don't have time to enter yourself, and you're a member of our British Comics Forum, perhaps you'd like to check out the entries. You can 'Like' an image on the forum by clicking the 'heart symbol' below it. So, if you have time, please 'like' one or two of your favourite entries. It might influence our decision on the winner, who will get a copy of the latest Modesty Blaise collection from Titan Books, The Girl in the Iron Mask.

I'm sure the artists who have already taken time out to enter would appreciate any feedback on their work, too.

You can view all the entries  so far here: http://downthetubes.ning.com/photo/albums/comic-challenge-modesty-blaise

• Entries by email only to to johnfreeman6-mb@yahoo.co.uk, to arrive no later than 12 noon GMT on 25th March 2013, please. Full competition details are here

Icarus flies into Paragon 7, out now

The latest issue of British indie title Paragon is out now - so here's a chance to find out why it has been nominated for an Eagle award as best British black and white comic book by buying the latest issue.

With a full colour cover by the fantastic Matt Soffe, publisher Davey Candlish tells us this issue makes a great jumping on point for those who want to see what all the fuss is about, as it includes two new stories.

What if Icarus hadn't plunged to his doom as his wings melted? Read his further adventures in Icarus Dangerous by Dirk Van Dom, Stephen Prestwood and Jim Campbell

Plus there's Rise of the MekkoSapiens... in which the question asked is - is G127 a robot? Human? Both? Does G127 even know? By Matthew McLaughlin, Dave Candlish and Matt Brown.

Alongside these new tales there's the terrific Jikan (by Mark Howard, El Chivo and Matt Brown), in a a double length 16-page complete adventure starring the time-travelling, demon-hunting Japanese warrior.

• Paragon #7 is on sale in print for £1.50 direct from the Paragon blog site - or as a digital edition via Lulu for just 99p

• Current Jikan scribe Mark Howard is auctioning off some original Jikan art for charity, namely to help those affected by the Japanese tsunami, and wrote a four page script for the occasion. More info here at http://genreforjapan.wordpress.com

Temple APA moves web home

The Temple APA - a group of some of Britain's most enthusiastic comic creators, most of them on the indie press scene - has moved homes on the internet after the closure of its ning site, after that community hosting service ended its support for non-paying sites.

The new Temple site is at social go, and you can sign up to here: www.templeapa.socialgo.com

"I've still got to give the site a bit of an overhaul" says Temple member David Hailwood, "but it's gradually getting there."

Members of the group include Davey Candlish, Paul Harrison-Davies, Paul Eldridge, John Kirkham and others.
